Pune: An argument over a petty issue at a fuel pump in Pimple Nilakh escalated into a violent attack on Sunday night, leaving two individuals grievously injured. Five youths allegedly assaulted the victims with sharp weapons, including an iron rod.
Incident Details
The Sangvi police have arrested three of the assailants on charges of attempted murder of an 18-year-old youth and his cousin. Two minor accomplices have also been detained. The father of the youth filed a complaint with the Sangvi police.
According to the police, the complainant runs a construction business, while his son operates an ice cream parlour in Pimple Nilakh. Around 10pm on Sunday, the complainant received a call from his nephew informing him about the attack on his son and himself.
Sequence of Events
The youth had gone to a petrol pump in Pimple Nilakh to refuel when a dispute arose with the accused over a minor issue. The youth then called his cousin to a nearby eatery. The accused, who were following them, arrived at the spot and summoned four more accomplices.
They attacked the complainant's son with an iron rod and one assailant struck him with a sharp weapon. When the cousin intervened, he was also attacked. As locals gathered, the accused threatened them, claiming to be local gangsters, and fled on motorcycles.
Tension gripped the area, and shopkeepers quickly closed their shutters. The police registered a case under sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 189, 190, and 191 (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.
“We have arrested three accused and detained their two minor accomplices. Our investigation is ongoing,” said an officer.
