Both the young girl and the accused minor are originally natives of Munsyari, a picturesque town in the region. Reports indicate that their acquaintance began in school, where they first met. Subsequently, in a development that underscores issues of child marriage, the couple proceeded to marry at a local temple last year, despite their tender ages.
Following their marriage, the pair relocated to Pune, Maharashtra, where the boy is employed at a private firm. He remains in Pune currently and has not returned to Munsyari since the incident unfolded. The girl's father works as a guard in Pune, while her mother had previously left the family. Prior to the marriage, the girl was residing with her stepmother in Munsyari and moved to Pune after the wedding.

The situation came to the attention of authorities when the girl was brought to the Pithoragarh district hospital by her in-laws, who reported she was experiencing labour pains. Medical professionals at the hospital, adhering to protocol, promptly informed the police about the case, given the minor age of the mother.
Sub-inspector Babita Tamta confirmed the registration of the case, stating, "A case has been registered under the POCSO Act and investigation is underway." This statement highlights the ongoing legal proceedings aimed at addressing the alleged offenses under this critical child protection legislation.

In response to the incident, the Child Welfare Committee has taken proactive steps to ensure the well-being of the young mother.
