Police Arrest Main Accused in Abduction Robbery Case

Margao: The Maina-Curtorim police on Thursday arrested the prime accused in an abduction and robbery case. The suspect was apprehended through technical surveillance in Davangere, Karnataka, nearly a month after the crime was registered.

Arrest and Charges

The arrested accused, Nilesh Bhimrao Jadhav, 53, a resident of Akola, Maharashtra, allegedly posed as an Enforcement Directorate officer to lure the complainant. According to the complaint filed by Ashok Kumar, 56, a resident of Borda, Fatorda, on March 24, Jadhav and his associates — Balram Shetty, Ajit, and an unidentified person — abducted Ashok from outside Canara Bank, Macazana, Salcete. The accused took Ashok in his own car to an isolated location in Karwar, Karnataka, where they threatened him with death and robbed Rs 3 lakh in cash from his vehicle.

Legal Proceedings

A case was registered at the Maina-Curtorim police station on April 1 under Sections 205, 140(3), 351(3), 308(5), and 309(4), read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. One accused, Ajit Kumar Kattimani, 34, a resident of Aquem, Margao, and a native of Kumbharwada, Bidar, Karnataka, was arrested earlier and later released on bail. The local court has remanded Jadhav to six days of police custody for further investigation.
