A police team conducting a raid to arrest a suspected drug trafficker was violently attacked by a group of youths in Harlalpur village, located in the Kharar subdivision of Mohali, on Wednesday afternoon. According to Kharar DSP Karan Singh Sandhu, the incident occurred at approximately 2:15 PM when a team from the Sadar police station in Kharar, led by Sub-Inspector Gurvinder Singh, arrived in Harlalpur village to execute a raid under the NDPS Act. The police personnel, who were in uniform, attempted to apprehend the accused but were confronted by a group of youths who reportedly launched a stone-throwing attack. During the altercation, a stone struck Sub-Inspector Gurvinder on the forehead, causing a head injury. The uniforms of several officers were also torn in the scuffle.
Despite the violent resistance, the police managed to arrest two suspects at the scene: Gurkeerat Singh, a resident of Daun village, and Devinder Singh, from Allahpur village. They have been charged with injuring a police officer and obstructing a public servant from performing their duty. DSP Sandhu confirmed that Sub-Inspector Gurvinder is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital and is reported to be out of danger. Authorities are actively searching for other assailants involved in the attack.
