In a series of targeted operations, the Punjab Police in Jalandhar successfully dismantled a gambling racket and apprehended a drug peddler, reinforcing their commitment to curbing illegal activities in the region.
Gambling Racket Busted
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a hideout in the Basti Bawa Khel area late Tuesday night. The operation led to the arrest of four individuals who were allegedly involved in running a gambling den. The police seized a significant amount of cash, mobile phones, and gambling paraphernalia from the spot. The accused have been identified as Raju, Sonu, Ravi, and Amit, all residents of the same locality. They were booked under the Gambling Act and are being interrogated to trace the mastermind behind the operation.
Drug Accused Arrested
In a separate operation, the police arrested a notorious drug peddler, Gurpreet Singh, from the Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar area. The accused was found in possession of 50 grams of heroin and a cash amount of Rs 10,000, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales. Gurpreet has a prior criminal record and was out on bail in a similar case. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are investigating his network of suppliers and clients.
Police Statement
Addressing the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar said, "These operations are part of our ongoing crackdown against anti-social elements. We are committed to making Jalandhar a safe city. We urge the public to continue providing information about any illegal activities in their neighborhoods." He also assured that strict action would be taken against those involved in gambling and drug trade.
The police have intensified patrolling and surveillance in sensitive areas to prevent such activities. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire network of gamblers and drug peddlers operating in the city.
