Police Encounter in Banda Leads to Arrest of Buffalo Thieves
A dramatic police operation unfolded in Banda, where a joint team from Kotwali Dehat and the Special Operations Group (SOG) engaged in an encounter with a gang of buffalo thieves during routine patrolling. The incident culminated in one accused being shot in the leg and two others being apprehended by authorities.
Informant Tip Sparks Police Action
According to police officials, the operation was initiated based on credible information received from an informer. The tip indicated that a group of thieves was transporting stolen buffaloes for sale, moving from the direction of Chahitara village. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the police team mobilized to cordon off the area, setting the stage for a confrontation.
Chase and Encounter Unfold
During the subsequent checking process, the accused attempted to flee the scene using their pickup loader vehicle. The police team immediately gave chase, leading to a high-speed pursuit. In a chaotic turn of events, the thieves' vehicle lost control and collided with a wall, bringing the chase to a halt. As police officers moved in to apprehend the suspects, the accused opened fire, prompting retaliatory action from the police in self-defence.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one of the accused, identified as Firoz Khan alias Anis, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was injured. The police managed to subdue and arrest him along with two other individuals: Chandan, son of Ramdeen, and Pankaj Singh, son of Ramchandra. All three arrested individuals are residents of Fatehpur district.
Recovery of Stolen Livestock
Police investigations revealed that the accused gang had stolen a total of ten buffaloes, heifers, and young bulls. Of these, three animals were successfully recovered by the authorities during the operation. However, the remaining seven had already been slaughtered in Unnao prior to the police intervention, highlighting the severity of the theft and its impact on local livestock owners.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating livestock theft in rural areas, while also demonstrating the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts in responding to criminal activities.
