A police constable sustained injuries while two other personnel suffered minor wounds during a violent stone-pelting incident at the Pupunki Ashram in Bokaro. The clash erupted late on Sunday evening, casting a shadow over an event marking a spiritual milestone.
Event Celebration Turns Violent
The ashram was hosting a programme to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Baba Muni. As a standard precautionary measure, police personnel were deployed at the venue to manage the crowd and ensure order.
However, the situation took an ugly turn when authorities received alerts about local residents forcibly stopping vehicles from entering and exiting the ashram premises. A police team immediately proceeded to the spot to intervene and control the developing disturbance.
Confrontation and Escalation
Upon arrival, the police found a group of individuals who appeared to be in an inebriated condition. Chas SDPO Praveen Kumar Singh, who confirmed the sequence of events, stated that the group first began misbehaving with the officers on duty.
The verbal altercation quickly spiraled into a physical scuffle. The individuals involved started recording videos of the confrontation, further aggravating the tense atmosphere. The situation soon escalated beyond control when the miscreants began pelting stones at the police team.
Aftermath and Police Response
The attack resulted in one constable getting injured, with two others receiving minor injuries. In the wake of the incident, tension gripped the surrounding area.
To restore law and order, the police administration swiftly deployed additional forces at the site. A thorough search operation was launched to identify the culprits. Following this, several people were detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into the unprovoked assault on the police personnel.
The late evening violence has raised concerns about local security during public gatherings, turning a peaceful commemorative event into a scene of conflict.
