Dausa Police May Excavate Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Search of Missing Child's Body
In a dramatic development in a six-year-old missing person case, Dausa police in Rajasthan are preparing to potentially excavate a portion of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. This unprecedented move aims to facilitate the search for the body of a four-year-old boy who vanished from Bandikui in Dausa district. During a detailed scanning operation conducted on Friday, officials identified three distinct locations where the device indicated anomalies resembling human remains beneath the expressway's surface.
"We found some suspicious remains at some points and sought permission for digging," stated Dausa Superintendent of Police Sagar Rana. The police are collaborating closely with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to coordinate any potential excavation, ensuring minimal disruption to the critical infrastructure.
From Missing Person to Murder Investigation
The case, which began as a missing person report six years ago, transformed into a full-fledged murder investigation in August 2020. A neighbor of the boy's family allegedly confessed to killing the child, a disclosure that emerged following renewed police scrutiny and court-monitored progress in the long-dormant case.
"As we dug deeper into the missing boy's case, we received inputs suggesting that the neighbour had a dispute with the boy's family. We detained him for questioning," revealed a senior police officer involved in the investigation. Police subsequently arrested the accused last week, though his identity remains withheld pending the recovery of the boy's mortal remains.
Complexities of the Burial Site
Investigators believe the child was abducted and later murdered, with his body buried in fields that were subsequently developed into the path of the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. This presents significant logistical challenges for excavation, as any digging operation must carefully navigate the highway's structure and ensure public safety.
An official involved in the technical assessment noted, "The images obtained from GPR are such that identification of the remains may be possible."
