In a shocking incident in Nashik district, the Nashik Rural police have arrested a police mitra and his nephew for allegedly attacking a couple with acid while they were asleep on the terrace of their farmhouse in Devlane village, Yeola taluka, on May 8.
Arrests and Charges
Superintendent of police D S Swami confirmed that the accused, identified as Changdev More and his nephew, have been booked under BNS section 124(1) (causing hurt by use of acid) and remanded in police custody. The investigation revealed that the attack was premeditated and stemmed from a long-standing boundary dispute and jealousy over the victim's successful onion crop.
Details of the Attack
According to police, the victims — Bhausaheb Borde and his wife Kantabai — were sleeping on the terrace of their farmhouse on the night of May 8 when unidentified assailants threw acid on them in the dark, leaving them severely injured. The couple raised an alarm and were rushed to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Investigation and Confession
During the investigation, police found that More, who was assisting officers as a police mitra, came under suspicion due to inconsistent statements and a history of conflict with the victim. "We found he had a long-standing boundary dispute with the victim and his statements were inconsistent. We, therefore, zeroed in on him," Swami said. Further interrogation revealed that More allegedly planned the attack with his nephew, driven by both the land dispute and jealousy over Borde's prosperous onion crop this season. "Confessing to the crime, More said he planned the attack with his nephew and executed it," Swami added.
