A police sub-inspector lost his life in a tragic road accident while performing his patrol duty in Bihar's Banka district. The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday night, casting a shadow of grief over the local police force.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The officer, identified as Purendra Singh, was on patrol duty near Sankat Mochan Chowk under the Panjwara police station area. According to reports, he was crossing the road when a speeding truck struck him, causing critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby local hospital, but the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police personnel who were also present at the scene acted swiftly. The truck driver attempted to flee the spot but was promptly apprehended and arrested. A preliminary investigation revealed a shocking detail: the truck was being driven by a helper in the absence of the regular driver. Initial findings point to negligence on the helper's part as the cause of the accident.
Aftermath and Investigation
On receiving the information, the Banka Superintendent of Police (SP) reached the accident site, conducted an inspection, and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials. The body of the deceased officer was taken to Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to his grieving family.
Purendra Singh was a native of Supaul Jamua village in Munger district. He is survived by his wife, a son, and two daughters. His family resides in Deoghar, Jharkhand. News of his untimely demise has deeply saddened the police department, especially his colleagues at the Panjwara police station.

The in-charge of Panjwara police station confirmed the arrest, stating, “The truck and the helper driving it were arrested. Legal action is being taken in the matter. All aspects of the accident are being investigated.”
