In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old farmer was allegedly murdered by his cousin over a dispute concerning irrigation water in Azizpur village, Mohali. The police have arrested the accused, identified as Bakshish Singh, for the crime that took place on Friday night.

Incident Details

The victim, Ram Rattan, had gone to water his fields on Friday night but did not return home until morning. Concerned family members went to the fields in search of him and discovered his blood-soaked body. The police were immediately informed and took the body into their custody. A forensic team also visited the spot to collect evidence.

Arrest and Investigation

According to the police, the victim and the accused had gone to the fields together on a motorbike. During a dispute over water for irrigation, the accused allegedly attacked Ram Rattan with a sharp weapon and fled the scene. Banur SHO Arshdeep Sharma confirmed that the wife and daughter of the deceased had passed away a few years ago, after which he had adopted a son.

A murder case has been registered based on the statement of the deceased's brother, Karamjit Singh. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination at the Dera Bassi hospital.
