A 28-year-old Indian man, identified as Anshul Kuncha, was shot and killed in North Philadelphia shortly after delivering pizza boxes inside a housing complex. The incident occurred on Friday just after 12:30 a.m. at the Raymon Rosen Homes housing complex on Edgeley Street.
Details of the Incident
Kuncha had completed a pizza delivery to an address that turned out to be a vacant unit. After leaving the pizzas, he was shot in the head. Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department stated, "He was lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to his head." Kuncha was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
Police traced the pizza order back to Pete's Pizza, where Kuncha worked. At the scene, officers recovered three spent shell casings just inches from the victim, indicating the shooter stood very close. The victim's vehicle was found nearby with a pizza warmer inside. Inside the vacant apartment, three pizza boxes and a bag were found untouched, suggesting the delivery was made before the shooting.
Surveillance Footage and Leads
Surveillance cameras from the Philadelphia Housing Authority captured parts of the incident, but not the shooting itself. The footage showed two people in dark clothing following Kuncha, one carrying a dark backpack. No arrests have been made, but police have a lead: the phone number used to place the pizza order. Chief Small confirmed, "We do have the phone number that made that pizza delivery."
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the suspects.
