Nagpur Police to Probe E-Commerce Platform Over Knife Used in Murder
Police to Question E-Commerce Firm Over Murder Knife

Nagpur: Yashodhara Nagar police are set to issue a notice on Monday to an e-commerce platform, seeking details of the online purchase and doorstep delivery of a knife which was allegedly used in a murder at Sangharsh Nagar last week.

Police will be demanding all transaction records related to the purchase made by Mujammil Ali, who is accused of stabbing Salman Ansari to death after a dispute over a love affair. As per police probe, Mujammil had allegedly bought the knife online recently following tension between him and Salman. Police may also summon representatives of the e-commerce company to record their statements.

Senior Inspector's Statement

Senior inspector of Yashodhara Nagar police station, Yunus Chand Shaikh, said the action was contemplated following intervention of senior officials. "The e-commerce firm would be asked to submit documents including purchase date, delivery address, payment details, and full transaction logs," he told The Times of India.

Proposed Crackdown on Online Sale of Weapons

Nagpur City Police are also considering a crackdown, including a proposed ban on online sale, supply, and doorstep delivery of knives and other potentially dangerous weapons via e-commerce platforms.

Authorities stressed such platforms must maintain strict records and extend full cooperation to law enforcement during criminal investigations. Earlier, the JMFC court had denied police custody to Mujammil after he claimed he was informed about the grounds of his arrest in a language he didn't understand. The court then later granted police remand till June 16 when police re-arrested Mujammil after verifying that he had studied the language in school and had also scored good marks in the language.
