Chennai: Ponneri police have launched a search for a youth who attempted to sexually assault a 37-year-old woman after offering her a lift on his two-wheeler near Ponneri in Tiruvallur district on Friday.
Incident Details
Police said the woman, a resident of Amoor village near Ponneri, worked at a textile factory in Madhavaram. Due to the lack of direct bus service to her village, she regularly walked approximately three kilometers after work to reach home.
On Friday, as she was returning home, a youth riding a two-wheeler offered to drop her home. She accepted the offer, but after traveling some distance, the accused stopped the vehicle in a secluded area and attempted to sexually assault her at knife-point.
Escape and Investigation
The accused fled the scene when the woman raised an alarm. Police are now examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify and apprehend the suspect.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about women's safety in the region. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
