Postmaster Suicide Probe Over Rs 60 Lakh Embezzlement

Prayagraj: Police on Wednesday launched a fresh probe into the case of suicide by postmaster J P Srivastava (55). He was posted at Subedarganj sub-post office. His body was found hanging at his house in Peepalgav area under the limits of Airport police station on Tuesday. In a suicide note, Srivastava had accused the cashier of the head post office of embezzlement to the tune of Rs 60 lakh.

Police Action and FIR

DCP (City) Maneesh Shandilya stated that an FIR was registered against the cashier for abetment to suicide. “The deceased had in his suicide note accused cashier Surendra Kumar of embezzlement and police are collecting all evidence in connection with the suicide case,” said the DCP. The authorities are thoroughly examining the suicide note and other documents to ascertain the facts.

Details of the Incident

The incident came to light on Tuesday when Srivastava’s family members found him hanging at his residence. They immediately informed the police, who recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. The suicide note, which was recovered from the scene, pointed fingers at the cashier for financial irregularities.

The police have initiated a detailed investigation, including questioning of colleagues and scrutiny of financial records at the post office. The accused cashier, Surendra Kumar, is yet to be arrested as the probe continues. The postmaster’s family has demanded strict action against the accused.
