Prayagraj Police Crack Down on Alleged Cow Meat Sale and Burglary Cases

In a significant law enforcement operation, Khuldabad police in Prayagraj made multiple arrests on Tuesday, targeting both food safety violations and criminal activities. The incidents highlight ongoing efforts to maintain public order and enforce regulations in the city.

Arrests Over Alleged Sale of Biryani with Cow Meat

Khuldabad police apprehended four individuals accused of selling biryani purportedly cooked with cow meat at a local restaurant. The arrested suspects have been identified as Mohammad Zaid, Ayan, Meezaan, and Shamsul, all residents of Kareli and Kaiserganj areas in Prayagraj. According to police reports, the miscreants were operating a restaurant in the Roshan Bagh locality, where they allegedly served biryani and kebabs prepared using cow meat.

Authorities have sent samples of the meat for forensic examination to confirm the allegations. The investigation was initiated after volunteers from the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), specifically its gau raksha wing, filed a formal complaint on Sunday. The VHP members accused the restaurant operators of selling dishes containing cow meat and claimed they faced threats when they raised objections. Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered under appropriate legal sections, leading to the arrests.

Separate Burglary Arrests by SOG and Dhoomanganj Police

In a parallel development, a joint team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Dhoomanganj police arrested two burglars on Tuesday. The suspects, Hamza Ansari (29) and Kashish Srivastava (26), residents of Ghaus Nagar and Dariyabad, were apprehended near Subedarganj road while allegedly planning to escape from the city.

Police seized significant items from the duo, including:

  • Rs 1.48 lakh in cash
  • Two mobile phones
  • One bike
  • Stolen gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees

Investigations revealed that Hamza Ansari has 13 pending criminal cases, while Kashish Srivastava faces 12 cases, all registered at different police stations across Prayagraj. These arrests underscore the police's focus on tackling repeat offenders and curbing theft-related crimes in the region.

Context and Implications

The arrests come amid heightened scrutiny on food safety and animal protection laws in Uttar Pradesh. The use of cow meat in food items is a sensitive issue, often leading to legal actions and community tensions. Police officials emphasized that such operations are part of routine checks to ensure compliance with regulations and address public grievances.

Meanwhile, the burglary case highlights ongoing challenges with property crimes in urban areas. The recovery of stolen goods and cash is expected to aid in further investigations and potentially link the suspects to other unsolved cases.

Note: The information is based on police statements and ongoing investigations. Forensic results for the meat samples are awaited, which will determine the final course of action in the biryani case.
