Prayagraj Man Arrested for Axe Murder Over Wife's Alleged Eight-Year Affair
In a shocking incident in Prayagraj, the Naini police have arrested a 66-year-old man for the brutal murder of his 70-year-old neighbor, a private watchman, over an alleged illicit affair spanning eight years. The crime occurred on the intervening night of April 2 and 3, with police recovering the axe used in the attack.
Accused Confesses to Premeditated Killing
The accused, identified as Ramlal, confessed to police that his wife, Anarkali, 65, was involved in a long-term relationship with her neighbor, Hazari Lal. Ramlal stated that he had repeatedly warned his wife to end the affair, but his pleas went unheeded, leading to deep distress and a conspiracy to eliminate Hazari.
On the fateful night, Ramlal left his home around 2 am armed with an axe. He proceeded to Hazari Lal's residence, where he first struck the victim on the head with the blunt side of the weapon. As Hazari collapsed, Ramlal delivered multiple blows to the face and head, resulting in fatal injuries. After the murder, he returned home, concealed the axe, and went to sleep.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the murder, Hazari's son filed a First Information Report (FIR) against an unknown person under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Senior police officers formed a special team to investigate the case. Utilizing electronic surveillance, including CCTV footage, and tips from informers, authorities tracked down Ramlal. After sustained interrogation, he admitted to the crime, leading to his arrest on Sunday.
The Naini police have emphasized the role of modern investigative techniques in solving this case, highlighting how technology and community intelligence combined to bring the perpetrator to justice. This incident underscores the severe consequences of personal disputes escalating into violence, with law enforcement urging the public to seek legal resolutions in such matters.
