Prayagraj STF Apprehends Fugitive Wanted in Cow Slaughter Case
In a significant breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) unit based in Prayagraj successfully arrested a wanted criminal on Sunday. The individual, identified as Mohd Amir, a resident of Mauaima near Delhupur road in Pratapgarh district, had been evading law enforcement for his alleged involvement in a cow slaughter incident.
Details of the Arrest and Criminal Charges
The arrest was made following an intensive manhunt by the STF sleuths. Mohd Amir was wanted by the Pratapgarh police in connection with a case of cow slaughter that occurred earlier this year. He has been formally booked under section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 3, 5, and 8 of the Uttar Pradesh Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, highlighting the serious nature of the charges against him.
Notably, a cash reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced for information leading to his capture, underscoring the priority placed on his apprehension by the authorities.
Confession and Criminal Activities
During interrogation, Mohd Amir reportedly admitted to his involvement in the crime. He confessed that, along with his accomplices, he stole cows and slaughtered them at Barsanda village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dehlupur police station in Pratapgarh district. This illegal act took place on January 16, after which he managed to escape the scene.
In an effort to avoid police action, Amir had been continuously changing his hideouts, making his capture a challenging task for law enforcement agencies. His arrest marks a crucial step in curbing such activities in the region.
Implications and Ongoing Investigations
The arrest is expected to aid in further investigations into the cow slaughter case and potentially lead to the identification and capture of his accomplices. The STF's successful operation demonstrates their commitment to tackling serious crimes and enforcing state laws designed to prevent cow slaughter.
Authorities have emphasized that such actions will not be tolerated, and they are determined to bring all perpetrators to justice. The case continues to be under active investigation as police work to uncover more details and ensure comprehensive legal proceedings.
