A 24-year-old married woman, four months pregnant, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Shahpur Kalan village under Hasanpur police station jurisdiction in Amroha district, police said on Wednesday.
Incident Details
Pratibha alias Pinki allegedly died on Tuesday evening. Based on a complaint filed by her father, an FIR was registered against her husband, Sonu Kumar, father-in-law Chetram, mother-in-law Rajeshwari, brother-in-law Dharmendra and a relative, Ashish, on charges of dowry death and related offences.
Family's Allegations
Complainant Sheeshpal, a resident of Nichla Tarara village, said his daughter was married to Sonu three years ago and had been subjected to physical and mental harassment for additional dowry. He alleged that the accused assaulted Pratibha and strangled her to death.
The family further claimed that Pratibha, who had a two-year-old daughter, was four months pregnant. As per the complaint, the accused had allegedly conducted an illegal sex determination test and, after learning that the foetus was female, killed her. Police said the allegation forms part of the FIR and is being investigated.
Accused Flee
Family members alleged that the accused fled after locking the house and left the woman’s body outside. After receiving information, police reached the spot, collected evidence, and sent the body for postmortem examination.
Police Action
Hasanpur SHO Rajesh Tiwari said, “An FIR has been registered against the five accused under sections 85, 80 and 115 of the BNS and sections 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.”
Police are investigating the allegations of illegal sex determination and dowry harassment. The postmortem report is awaited to confirm the cause of death.
