A 51-year-old priest was discovered murdered on Monday morning within the premises of a Hanuman temple in Sahpau town, Hathras district. The victim, identified as Dilip Kumar, also known as Chandu Lala, had been struck on the head with a heavy object, according to police officials.
Details of the Incident
Dilip Kumar, a resident of Nagla Sukhram village, had been serving as the temple priest for the past eight months. He was unmarried and lived alone on the temple grounds, as confirmed by his nephew Prem Kumar. The murder came to light when locals noticed the temple remained closed well past its usual opening hours on Monday morning. Upon entering the shrine, they found the priest lying in a pool of blood.
Police Response and Investigation
A police team from Sahpau Kotwali police station arrived at the scene, followed by a forensic team that collected critical evidence. Sadabad Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) J N Asthana also inspected the site to review initial findings. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, said DSP Asthana.
An FIR has been registered at Sahpau police station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to murder. While the motive behind the killing remains unclear, investigators are exploring all possible angles, including theft and personal enmity. Five police teams have been formed to trace the assailant and bring them to justice.

Dilip Kumar had been performing religious duties at the Hanuman temple for eight months. He lived alone on the temple premises and was known to the local community. His nephew Prem Kumar expressed shock at the incident, noting that his uncle had no known enemies. Police are questioning locals and examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to gather leads.
