A public prosecutor has accused a Ghaziabad district court judge of using a casteist slur against him during court proceedings and has filed complaints with the police and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC).
Details of the Allegation
Special public prosecutor Sanjeev Kumar Bakharva alleged that on March 11, the judge used unparliamentary language and threatened him with incarceration on charges of contempt of court. When Bakharva objected to what he called an “unwarranted reprimand,” the judge, according to the prosecutor, lost his temper and used a casteist slur. Bakharva also sent a copy of the complaint to the district judge.
Response from Authorities
The NCSC has issued notices to the district magistrate and police commissioner, seeking a report and details of procedures undertaken under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995, within 15 days. The complaint was filed at the Kavinagar police station.
Further updates on this case are awaited as the authorities investigate the matter.
