Pune Citizens Apprehend Robber in Moshi, Accomplice Still on the Run

In a swift response by vigilant residents, a 34-year-old man was captured on Sunday evening after he threatened and robbed a worker of Rs 8,000 in Pune's Moshi area. The arrested individual, identified as Manoj Gaikwad from Tadiwala Road, is a known criminal with prior records in the Pune City Police files. His accomplice managed to escape from the scene during the incident.

Details of the Robbery and Citizen Intervention

The victim, a 28-year-old painting worker, was walking along a road in Moshi around 6:30 PM on Sunday when Gaikwad and his accomplice stopped him. The duo threatened the worker and forcibly snatched Rs 8,000 from his wallet. As the victim raised an alarm, nearby people rushed to his aid and successfully nabbed Gaikwad. Coincidentally, a police patrolling vehicle was passing through the area at the same time, and officers took the accused into custody immediately.

Police Action and Legal Charges

Sub-inspector Rupesh Khadse of the Bhosari MIDC Police, who is handling the case, confirmed the details. The victim lodged a formal complaint with the Bhosari MIDC Police on Monday. Gaikwad has been charged under Section 309 (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Additionally, he has existing cases registered against him with the Bund Garden police. Authorities are actively searching for Gaikwad's accomplice, who remains at large.

The police have commended the public's quick response, which led to the immediate arrest of a repeat offender.
