Pune Delivery Executive Killed in Tragic Road Accident Involving School Bus
A tragic road accident in Pune's Baner area claimed the life of a 53-year-old quick commerce delivery executive on Wednesday afternoon. The fatal incident occurred at 4:16 pm on Radha Hotel Chowk–Nanaware Bridge Road, near the Katraj–Dehu Road bypass, when a school bus collided with a tractor, causing its trolley to detach and strike the victim.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Fatal Collision
According to senior inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant of the Baner police, the empty school bus was returning to its institution after dropping off all students. The vehicle was traveling from Baner towards Radha Hotel Chowk when the driver attempted to overtake a motorcycle rider ahead.
"While overtaking, the bus collided head-on with the tractor and its attached trolley," explained Sawant. "The impact caused the tractor to veer off the road, with the trolley bearing the brunt of the collision."
Victim Identified as Shivaji Uttamrao Shinde
The deceased delivery agent has been identified as Shivaji Uttamrao Shinde, a 53-year-old resident of Baner. Police reports indicate Shinde was riding his motorcycle behind the tractor when the collision occurred.
"As soon as the bus hit the tractor, the iron trolley separated from its chassis," detailed Inspector Sawant. "The detached trolley fell and struck Shinde, causing serious injuries. He was immediately shifted to a nearby private hospital where authorities declared him dead."
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Shinde's son, 26-year-old Gajanan, lodged a formal complaint with police later that night. The Baner police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the 35-year-old school bus driver, who is a resident of Balewadi.
The police have served the driver with an official notice as part of their investigation. The bus driver also sustained injuries in the accident, and the school bus itself suffered significant damage during the collision.
