A seemingly trivial disagreement about paying respects to the deceased spiraled into a violent crime in Pune, where four men allegedly abducted a 33-year-old fabrication worker and attempted to kill him on Tuesday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting how minor disputes can escalate into grave offenses.
Background of the Dispute
Senior Inspector Pramod Wagh of the Dighi police station provided details about the case. According to him, the victim’s brother was acquainted with one of the suspects. Recently, the brother and the suspect engaged in a heated argument over the issue of not showing proper respect to a deceased individual. The victim, who was not initially involved, stepped in to mediate the conflict. “The victim had just gone to resolve the matter,” Wagh told the Times of India.
Abduction and Assault
Late Tuesday night, the four suspects abducted the victim from Charholi and transported him to a remote location along the Alandi-Wadgaon Road. During the ordeal, they video-called the main suspect, who allegedly instructed them to kill the victim. Following these orders, the assailants attacked the victim with sharp weapons, inflicting severe injuries. Believing him to be dead, they left him at the scene and fled.
Survival and Police Action
Miraculously, the victim survived the brutal assault. He managed to contact his friends, who rushed to his aid. Subsequently, he reached the Dighi police station to file a complaint. Acting swiftly on the information, the police apprehended three of the assailants. “We are searching for the other suspect involved in the attack,” Wagh confirmed.
Legal Proceedings
The police have registered a case under sections 140 (abduction to murder), 109 (attempt to murder), and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to locate the remaining suspect. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
