Pune Double Murder: 6-Year-Old Girl and 75-Year-Old Neighbor Found Dead in Kelgaon Thakarwadi
A horrifying double murder has shaken the Kelgaon Thakarwadi area near Alandi in Pune, where a six-year-old girl and her 75-year-old neighbor were discovered brutally murdered in the latter's residence on Thursday morning. The grim discovery was made by the girl's grandmother upon returning from her night shift at a local hospital.
Discovery of the Crime Scene
The tragic incident came to light when Sangita Kedari, the 41-year-old grandmother of the deceased girl, went to her neighbor's house to retrieve her granddaughter. Senior Inspector Bhima Narke of the Alandi police detailed the chilling scene: "When the woman opened the door, she found the blood-soaked bodies of her granddaughter and the neighbor." The victims have been identified as 75-year-old Sangita Shinde and six-year-old Dhanashri Kedari.
Background of the Victims
Inspector Narke provided crucial context about the victims' living situation. Sangita Kedari works in the housekeeping department of a private hospital in Alandi and has been raising Dhanashri since the girl was a toddler. "On Wednesday, Kedari was on night duty at the hospital and had dropped Dhanashri at Shinde's house around 8pm. Shinde was also living alone," Narke explained. This routine childcare arrangement turned deadly overnight.
Police Investigation Details
When Kedari returned from work in the morning, she found Shinde's door unlocked from the inside. "Upon opening it, she discovered both Shinde and Dhanashri dead. She immediately raised an alarm, following which locals gathered at the spot and alerted the police," Narke stated. Preliminary forensic examination revealed disturbing details: Shinde appeared to have been bludgeoned to death, while young Dhanashri showed signs of throttling.
The police have confirmed several puzzling aspects of the case. No items were reported stolen from the residence, eliminating robbery as an apparent motive. Furthermore, investigators found no evidence of forced entry into the house. Narke speculated: "The door of Shinde's house was either left unlocked or she may have opened it for someone."
Ongoing Police Efforts
Multiple police teams from the Alandi station and the crime branch have been deployed to investigate this heinous crime. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. "We are investigating the motive behind the murders," Narke emphasized, acknowledging the complex nature of the case given the absence of clear theft or forced entry evidence.
This double murder has sent shockwaves through the Kelgaon Thakarwadi community, raising concerns about safety in residential neighborhoods. The police continue their investigation while the families and community mourn the tragic loss of two lives in such brutal circumstances.
