Pune Driver Arrested for Murdering Wife Over Childlessness Dispute
Pune driver kills wife for not bearing child, arrested

In a shocking incident from Pune, a 35-year-old private driver has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, with police citing the woman's inability to bear a child and the husband's suspicions about her character as the primary motives behind the brutal crime.

Husband Confesses to Strangulation

The tragic event unfolded on Friday night at the couple's residence in Gurudatta Colony, Bhekrai Nagar, Phursungi. According to a police press release issued on Saturday, the accused, Akash Vishnu Dodke (35), allegedly assaulted his wife, Priyanka Akash Dodke (27), before strangling her to death with a rope around 10:30 PM.

In a significant turn, Akash himself contacted the police after the act and confessed to committing the murder. Law enforcement officials rushed to the crime scene upon receiving the information. The body of the deceased was sent for a post-mortem examination and was later handed over to her grieving family members.

Marital Discord and Alleged Motives

Assistant Police Inspector Nanasaheb Jadhav provided details into the couple's strained relationship. "Accused Akash worked as a driver at a mall in the city. He got married to Priyanka in 2018. A probe revealed that he doubted her character and was also upset because she was not bearing a child. It led to frequent quarrels between the couple," Jadhav stated.

The police investigation, initiated after a formal complaint, suggests that these long-standing issues culminated in the extreme act of violence. The FIR in the case was lodged at the Fursungi police station by the victim's brother, Sagar Ramdas Adagale (35), a resident of Nangaon in Daund.

Legal Action Under New Law

The authorities have taken swift legal action against the accused. Akash Vishnu Dodke has been arrested under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new penal code that has replaced the Indian Penal Code. This section pertains to punishment for murder.

The case has sent ripples through the local community, highlighting grave issues of domestic violence and societal pressure surrounding parenthood. The police probe is ongoing to gather further evidence and establish a complete sequence of events leading to the murder.
