Pune Family Faces Murder Charges After Fatal Assault on 23-Year-Old Man

In a shocking incident in Pune, the Kothrud police have taken six members of a family into custody for their alleged involvement in the brutal killing of a young man. The arrest was made on Sunday, following a violent altercation that occurred around 8 pm the previous day at a housing society located in the Kothrud area.

Victim Identified as Nagesh Sanjay Jadhav

Senior Inspector Sandeep Deshmane of the Kothrud police provided details, identifying the deceased as Nagesh Sanjay Jadhav, a 23-year-old resident of Wadarwadi. Jadhav was employed as an office boy at a company in Shivajinagar, making a modest living to support his family.

Alleged Motive: Harassment of Minor Daughter

According to police reports, the family members, which include five women among the six arrested, suspected that Jadhav had been following and harassing their minor daughter. Instead of reporting the matter to the authorities, they allegedly decided to take matters into their own hands, leading to a fatal confrontation.

"We have arrested the minor girl's family members and their relatives, all of whom do odd jobs, for allegedly kicking and punching the victim to death. The suspects also assaulted him with a stick," stated Senior Inspector Deshmane. He emphasized that the family had not previously approached the police regarding the harassment allegations, but this did not justify their violent actions.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy

The incident unfolded on Saturday evening. Around 7:15 pm, Jadhav was at home with his mother, Surekha Jadhav (45), who works as a maid in Market Yard. He received a phone call and promptly left the house on his motorcycle.

Approximately 45 minutes later, at 8 pm, Surekha received a distressing call from an unidentified man. The caller informed her that he and his relatives had beaten up her son and instructed her to take him home. Surekha, along with other relatives, rushed to the housing society in Kothrud, where they found Nagesh lying unconscious on the ground.

Medical Response and Fatal Outcome

The family immediately transported Nagesh to a private hospital on Senapati Bapat Road. However, doctors there advised shifting him to Sassoon General Hospital for advanced medical care. Tragically, upon arrival at Sassoon, doctors declared him dead, citing severe internal injuries as the cause of death.

Surekha Jadhav, who lodged a formal complaint with the Kothrud police on Saturday night, is now mourning the loss of her only child. The police have registered a murder case against the arrested family members, highlighting the grave consequences of vigilante justice.

Police Condemn Taking Law into Own Hands

Senior Inspector Deshmane reiterated the importance of legal recourse in such matters. "The family did not approach the police on this issue. But this does not mean that the girl's family members can take the law into their hands," he asserted, underscoring that violence is never an acceptable solution, regardless of the circumstances.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of extrajudicial actions and the critical role of law enforcement in addressing disputes. The Kothrud police continue their investigation to ensure justice is served for Nagesh Sanjay Jadhav and his grieving family.
