Pune police have registered a case of alleged abetment to suicide against three individuals, including two employees of an IT firm, following the death of a 48-year-old staffer, an official confirmed on Friday. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident.
Case Registered at Bhosari Police Station
The case was registered at the Bhosari police station in neighboring Pimpri-Chinchwad city based on a complaint filed by the deceased's son, a police official stated. The victim, who worked at the Hinjawadi office of the IT company, allegedly hanged himself at his residence in Bhosari on June 2.
Suicide Note Allegations
In his purported suicide note, the deceased named a friend for allegedly sending defamatory emails about him to the company. The note also accused two female colleagues of repeatedly humiliating him in front of others, depriving him of favorable work assignments, and assigning projects outside his area of expertise. According to the note, the two women reprimanded him over his performance, asked him to quit his job in the presence of coworkers, and threatened to provide adverse feedback.
Police Investigation Underway
"We have registered a case under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are conducting further investigation. No arrest has been made so far," the police official said.
IT Firm Responds
The IT firm released a statement acknowledging the allegations against its employees. "The wellbeing of our employees is of utmost importance to us, and we are extending all support to the bereaved family. We have also taken note of the allegations against the two employees and are ascertaining the facts," the company said. It reiterated its commitment to fostering a workplace that is respectful, supportive, and inclusive for all employees.
NITES Seeks Investigation
Meanwhile, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an association of IT workers, has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting an inquiry into the case.
