Brave Shop Owners Thwart Armed Robbers in Consecutive Incidents
In a display of remarkable courage, two jewellery shop owners on NDA Road in Pune successfully foiled armed robbery attempts on consecutive days, suffering injuries while protecting their businesses from unidentified attackers.
First Robbery Attempt at Morya Jewellers
The series of incidents began around 8 pm on Friday when three men pretending to be customers entered Morya Jewellers located near Dhawade petrol pump in Uttam Nagar. According to police reports, the suspects suddenly brandished a sharp weapon and demanded gold ornaments from the shop owner.
Showing quick thinking, the shop owner hurled a selfie stick at the attackers, triggering a physical confrontation. During the scuffle, the robbers assaulted the owner and smashed the glass of the cash counter. As the owner continued to resist and called for help, the suspects fled the scene on a two-wheeler.
The shop owner sustained hand injuries during the attack. A police team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam immediately visited the crime scene to gather evidence.
Second Incident at Vijaylakshmi Jewellers
In a strikingly similar incident on Saturday evening, another group of armed robbers targeted Vijaylakshmi Jewellers on NDA Road in Shivane. The attackers barged into the establishment and assaulted the shop owner, but their plans were thwarted when the owner raised a loud alarm.
The commotion alerted neighboring shopkeepers who rushed to assist, causing the robbers to flee empty-handed on two-wheelers. The shop owner suffered facial injuries during the assault but managed to prevent any theft of ornaments.
Police Investigation Underway
Police officials confirmed that CCTV footage from both shops and surrounding areas has provided crucial evidence about the suspects. Senior Police Inspector Mohan Khandare of Uttam Nagar police station stated that special teams have been formed to search for the accused in both attempted robbery cases.
"Teams have been formed for searching the accused in both the attempted robbery incidents," Khandare confirmed. "It is being investigated whether the same persons were involved in both the crimes. The injured jewellery shop owners are stable."
Following the first incident, the owner of Morya Jewellers filed a formal complaint at the Uttam Nagar police station. The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 309(6), 333, 3(5), and 324(4), along with relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act. Assistant Police Inspector Priyanka Gaikwad is leading the investigation into this case.
The second incident also resulted in an FIR being lodged at the same police station. Authorities are examining the possibility of connection between both crimes, given the similar modus operandi and location.
