A 30-year-old lawyer in Pune filed a complaint with the police on Monday morning, alleging that she was sexually harassed by four men in a car in Koregaon Park late Sunday night. According to the complaint, the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when the woman, who resides in the Ghorpadi area, was in a moving car that later stopped along Mangaldas Road. The two initial suspects were later joined by two friends, who also molested her.
Arrests and Investigation
By Monday evening, the Koregaon Park police had arrested all four men involved in the alleged crime. The police also seized the car in which the incident took place. According to authorities, the four men come from families involved in businesses such as automobile showrooms, industrial godowns, and warehouses.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, 'We registered the lawyer's complaint promptly. Our teams are investigating the case. A few months ago, the woman had lodged a similar complaint against some men in Goa. We are collecting details of that case from the Goa police.'
Details of the Incident
According to police, the lawyer had a profile on a matrimonial website. She chatted with a man on the site and agreed to meet him at a restaurant in a seven-star hotel in Mundhwa on Sunday evening. After talking for a while, the prospective match left the restaurant. Meanwhile, two men sitting at an adjacent table invited the lawyer to join them, and she accepted. Later, the three decided to visit a pub near the Pune railway station, and the lawyer got into their car. On the way to the pub, the two men sexually harassed her. They then called two friends, who arrived at the location and also molested her.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
