Pune Police Register Criminal Case Over Social Media Photo Upload
In a significant development in Pune, the Nanded City police have taken legal action by registering a case of criminal intimidation and defamation against a 23-year-old man employed with a private company. The case stems from the accused uploading objectionable photographs of his friend on a social media platform, an act that has sparked serious concerns over digital harassment and privacy violations.
Complaint Filed by Victim from Dhayari
The incident came to light when a 23-year-old resident of Dhayari, who also works as a helper in a private company, lodged a formal complaint against his friend on Sunday. According to police reports, the two individuals were previously good friends, with the suspect residing in the Bibvewadi area of Pune. Senior Inspector Atul Bhos of Nanded City police confirmed the details, emphasizing the severity of the allegations.
Details of the Incident and Social Media Misuse
Police investigations revealed that on March 25, an argument erupted between the two friends. In a retaliatory move, the friend from Bibvewadi uploaded old photographs of the complainant on various social media sites. Not only did he post these images, but he also published the complainant's phone number alongside them. The accompanying text falsely accused the complainant of being involved in flesh trade, a claim that has no basis in fact according to authorities.
Consequences and Police Response
Following the upload, the complainant began receiving a barrage of obscene calls repeatedly, causing significant distress and harassment. This escalation prompted the victim to approach the police, leading to the registration of the case. The police are now actively investigating the matter to gather evidence and ensure appropriate legal action is taken against the accused. This incident underscores the growing issue of cyberbullying and the misuse of social media for personal vendettas, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of digital laws.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when sharing personal information online and to report any instances of cyber harassment immediately. The case serves as a stark reminder of the potential legal repercussions for those who engage in such malicious activities on digital platforms.
