Pune Police File Murder Case After Youth Beaten to Death Over Pigeon Theft Suspicion
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Pune, the police have registered a case of murder against five men for allegedly kicking, punching, and beating a 19-year-old youth to death near Canal Road in Wanowrie. The victim has been identified as Rupesh Shinde, a resident of Moshi in Pimpri Chinchwad. According to police reports, Shinde was a construction worker who regularly assisted his father at various construction sites. The incident unfolded when he and his friend, Ajay Tingre (20), were returning to Pimpri Chinchwad on a motorcycle late at night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Rajlaxmi Shivankar provided crucial details about the case. She stated, "Our team is actively probing the case. We have successfully identified the five men responsible for attacking and killing Shinde. A formal case of murder has been registered against them at the Wanowrie police station."
Assault Triggered by Misguided Suspicion of Pigeon Theft
The police investigation reveals that the assault was triggered by a grave misunderstanding. Tingre recounted to authorities that he and Shinde had stopped near some pigeon cages to relieve themselves during their journey. At that moment, the five accused men charged at them, suspecting that the duo were thieves attempting to steal pigeons.
"Shinde tried to run but fell on the road. The five men caught him and beat him severely. They also assaulted him with a wooden bat," explained DCP Shivankar, detailing the horrific sequence of events. "When Shinde lost consciousness due to the brutal beating, the accused took him to a hospital and admitted him. However, in a desperate attempt to cover up their crime, they tried to pass off the incident as a road accident."
