Head-On Autorickshaw Crash in Mulshi Claims One Life, Injures Two
Pune: One Dead, Two Injured in Mulshi Autorickshaw Collision

A fatal head-on collision between two autorickshaws in Pune's Mulshi taluka on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of one driver and left two others injured. The incident has highlighted concerns over road safety amid poor visibility and ongoing repair work.

Details of the Tragic Collision

The accident occurred around 7 am near Shelkewadi at Ghotawade. According to the Pune Rural police, the deceased has been identified as B V Shelke (34), a resident of Shelarmala in Mulshi. He was driving towards Maan when his vehicle collided with another autorickshaw heading in the opposite direction towards Pirangut.

The driver of the other three-wheeler, Ajay Matere, and his passenger, Mahesh Matere, both from Materewadi near Ghotawade, sustained injuries in the crash. Shelke, tragically, died on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

Possible Causes Under Investigation

An officer from the Pune Rural police indicated that two primary factors may have contributed to the tragic event. Low visibility due to morning haze was a significant condition at the time. Furthermore, road repair work was ongoing in the area, which might have affected the normal flow of traffic and driver awareness.

"These could be the reasons behind the collision," the officer stated, while investigations into the exact sequence of events continue.

Aftermath and Road Safety Concerns

The incident has once again brought focus to the vulnerabilities on rural and semi-urban roads, especially during early hours when visibility can be compromised. Autorickshaws, being a common mode of transport, often ply on such routes where road conditions and environmental factors pose constant risks.

The local authorities are handling the case, and the injured have been provided medical attention. The community mourns the loss of Shelke, while the injured are hoped to recover swiftly.
