Major Job Scam in Pune: Pharmacist and Relatives Lose Rs 43 Lakh to Fraudster

The Sant Tukaramnagar police in Pune have launched a manhunt for an accused from Indapur who is alleged to have orchestrated a sophisticated government job scam, defrauding a local pharmacist and two of his relatives of a staggering sum of Rs 43 lakh. The victims were lured with promises of lucrative positions in state departments, only to be left empty-handed after transferring the money between September 2024 and October 25.

Complaint Lodged After Failed Promises

According to police officials, the pharmacist, whose identity has not been disclosed, filed a formal complaint with the Sant Tukaramnagar police station on Saturday. The complaint details how the accused, who was known to the pharmacist, exploited their acquaintance to perpetrate the fraud.

An officer from the Sant Tukaramnagar police provided insights into the case: "The accused visited the pharmacist's residence in Pimpri in September 2024. He confidently assured the complainant of securing a job as a senior inspector in the social welfare department. Additionally, he boasted about having strong connections within the state government, promising to arrange positions in the Nagpur prison department for the pharmacist's nephew and another relative."

Trusting these assurances, the trio collectively handed over Rs 43 lakh to the accused over the following weeks, expecting the promised employment to materialize.

Investigation Underway as Victims Seek Justice

When the jobs failed to materialize, the pharmacist and his relatives began persistently pursuing the accused for a refund of their money. Despite their efforts, they received no repayment, leading the pharmacist to take legal action by approaching the police.

The officer emphasized that the investigation is actively progressing, with teams working to trace the accused and gather evidence. "Our investigations are underway to apprehend the individual and uncover the full extent of this scam," he stated, urging the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent schemes.

This incident highlights the risks associated with job scams, particularly those involving unverified promises of government employment. Authorities advise citizens to verify job offers through official channels and report any suspicious activities to prevent similar financial losses.
