In a significant breakthrough against organized vehicle theft, the Kalewadi police in Pune have successfully apprehended a key member of a gang specializing in stealing four-wheelers and illicitly selling their parts. The arrest, made on Monday, marks a crucial step in curbing auto-related crimes in the region.
Police Action Leads to Recovery of Stolen Goods
The Kalewadi police team, under the leadership of senior police inspector Rajendra Bahirat, executed the operation that led to the arrest. During their investigation into multiple vehicle theft cases, authorities received a critical tip-off indicating that a suspect involved in such activities was en route to Mumbai via the Pune-Mumbai highway.
Acting swiftly on this information, the police team pursued the suspect and managed to take him into custody. The accused was identified as Shiva Yadav, a 20-year-old resident of Chikhali.
Confession and Recovery Details
Upon sustained interrogation, Yadav confessed to his involvement in a specific theft incident. He admitted to stealing a multi-utility vehicle from the Kalewadi area on January 29. Furthermore, Yadav disclosed that he had transported the stolen vehicle to a scrap godown located in Moi village within Khed taluka, where it was dismantled for parts.
Following this revelation, the police team promptly visited the scrap dealer's premises. There, they recovered an additional stolen pickup truck along with spare parts from two other stolen vehicles. The total value of the recovered items, including the four-wheeler and scrapped parts, is estimated at Rs 3.5 lakh.

The police have confirmed that their investigations are still active as they search for the accomplices of the arrested accused. An officer involved in the case stated, "We are diligently working to identify and apprehend the other members of this gang.
