In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch successfully dismantled a sex racket operating under the cover of a spa in Pune. The operation, conducted on Monday night, targeted a spa located in the Pimple Nilakh area, leading to the arrest of a woman operator and the manager involved in the illegal enterprise.
Police Raid and Arrests
Acting on a credible tip-off, a specialized crime branch team, led by senior police inspector Nitin Gite, executed a swift raid on the spa. During the operation, the police not only apprehended the key figures but also took stringent action against four women who were found to be engaged in prostitution activities at the establishment.
Recent Crackdowns in the Region
This incident is part of a broader and intensified effort by the Pimpri Chinchwad police to combat sex trafficking and related crimes. In the past month alone, the crime branch has conducted similar raids, including one at a spa in Nigdi and another at a lodge in Alandi. In these operations, action was taken against four women, and cases were registered against the owners of the lodge and spa.
Annual Statistics and Enforcement Actions
Senior police inspector Nitin Gite provided insights into the scale of the crackdown over the last year. He revealed that the crime branch has busted a total of 28 sex rackets operating from various locations across Pimpri Chinchwad. This has resulted in the arrest of 45 individuals and action against 63 women involved in the flesh trade.
Additionally, Gite highlighted that the police have registered 70 cases against 107 women who were caught soliciting for prostitution on public roads, underscoring the comprehensive nature of their enforcement strategy.
Commissioner's Orders and Establishment Closures
In a related development, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey has taken a firm stance against such establishments. In the last month, he issued orders to seal three venues, including two spas and a lodge, for their involvement in operating sex rackets. Over the past year, similar actions have been taken against eight establishments, reflecting a sustained commitment to eradicating these illegal operations from the area.
The police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities, as they remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain law and order and protect the community from such exploitative practices.
