Pune Police Detain Man for Supplying Drug-Laced Tablets to Paan Shops
Pune Police Detain Man for Drug-Laced Paan Tablets

The Shivajinagar police on Monday detained and subsequently released a 30-year-old man from Pimpri Chinchwad for supplying sedative-laced tablets to several paan stall operators in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad.

Operation Details

A team led by Senior Inspector Girish Dighavkar of the Shivajinagar police station apprehended the suspect from a tempo parked on FC Road on Monday. During a thorough search of the vehicle, police discovered multiple packets containing tablets that were found to have contraband substances.

Modus Operandi

According to Dighavkar, the paan stall operators from both Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad regularly purchased these tablets from the accused to mix into paan, thereby creating a addictive kick that compelled customers to keep buying paan. This practice posed serious health risks to unsuspecting consumers.

The police seized the tablets along with the tempo, with the total value of the confiscated items amounting to Rs 3.39 lakh. Dighavkar stated, "We have served a notice to the man asking him to cooperate with the investigations." The suspect was released after initial questioning but remains under scrutiny as the probe continues.

Authorities are now investigating the broader network involved in the supply of such substances to paan shops across the region. Further actions are expected as the case develops.
