Pune Police File Comprehensive Chargesheet in High-Profile Mundhwa Land Deal Investigation

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Pune City Police has taken a significant step forward in the ongoing investigation into the controversial Mundhwa land deal by filing a voluminous 1,886-page chargesheet against key accused Sheetal Tejwani. This development marks a crucial phase in the probe that has captured public attention due to its political and financial implications.

Details of the Chargesheet and Accused Individuals

According to senior police officials with the Pune City Police, the chargesheet against Tejwani was formally filed on January 27, 2026. Tejwani, who is currently in judicial custody, held the power of attorney for 272 watandars of Maharwatan land in Mundhwa, facilitating its sale to Amadea Enterprises LLP. This firm notably includes Parth Pawar, son of late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, as a partner.

The case revolves around allegations that the land, classified as Mahar Watan land and leased to the Botanical Survey of India, was sold without obtaining the mandatory approval from the state government. This procedural violation has raised serious questions about the legality of the transaction.

Ongoing Investigations and Multiple FIRs

Investigations continue against other individuals connected to the case:

  • Digvijay Patil, partner of Parth Pawar in Amadea Enterprises LLP
  • Suryakant Yewale, the suspended tehsildar accused of issuing wrongful orders
  • Ravindra Taru, the now-suspended sub-registrar who registered the deal

Tejwani was initially arrested by the EOW on December 3 last year as part of the probe into an FIR registered at Khadak police station on November 7. She faced subsequent arrest by the Pimpri Chinchwad police concerning investigations into stamp duty waiver allegations registered at Bavdhan police station.

A separate FIR has been filed at Bavdhan police station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police jurisdiction regarding the Mundhwa land parcel. Digvijay Patil has been named as an accused in both cases being investigated by the Pune police and the Pimpri Chinchwad police.

Legal Framework and Allegations

The FIRs have been registered under provisions of cheating and criminal breach of trust, highlighting the serious nature of the allegations. The complaint originated from the office of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR), which raised concerns about graft and irregularities in this multi-crore land deal.

Pune City Police have clarified that the FIR registered at Khadak police station, later transferred to the EOW, involves alleged irregularities concerning two separate land parcels in Bopodi and Mundhwa. These cases are linked by the common involvement of suspended tehsildar Suryakant Yewale, who is accused of misconduct in both instances.

The land in question, originally a hereditary land grant known as Mahar Watan, was under government possession and leased to the Botanical Survey of India before the controversial sale. This background adds complexity to the legal proceedings and underscores the significance of proper regulatory oversight in land transactions.
