Pune Police Launch Manhunt for Indapur Resident in Rs 44 Lakh Government Job Fraud Case
The Sant Tukaram police in Pune have initiated a widespread search operation for a resident of Indapur, who is alleged to have defrauded three individuals of a staggering Rs 44 lakh. The scam, which unfolded between September 2024 and October 2025, involved false promises of securing permanent government positions in various state departments located in Pune and Nagpur.
Complaint Filed by Pharmacy Shop Owner
A 38-year-old pharmacy shop owner from Pimpri lodged a formal complaint with the Sant Tukaram police on Friday, setting the investigation in motion. According to police reports, the complainant was actively seeking a government job for his nephew, who harbored aspirations for stable public sector employment.
Through a mutual friend, the pharmacy owner was introduced to the suspect from Indapur. This friend vouched for the man's purported strong connections with senior government officials, claiming he had the influence to arrange permanent government jobs for aspirants.
Elaborate Scheme Unravels
Encouraged by this assurance, the victim reached out to his friends and other acquaintances who were also in pursuit of government employment. The group subsequently met with the suspect, who confidently asserted his ability to deliver on these job promises through his alleged contacts.
In a calculated move, the accused demanded sums ranging from Rs 10 lakh to 15 lakh from each victim, amassing a total of Rs 44 lakh. To lend credibility to his scheme, he provided the victims with counterfeit appointment letters and instructed them to report for duty at various government offices across the state.
Victims Discover Fraud at Offices
The scam began to unravel when the victims visited the designated offices, including the social welfare department and the state prisons office in Nagpur. Upon presentation of the appointment letters, officials at these locations promptly identified the documents as fraudulent and informed the victims that no such job positions existed.
This revelation exposed the elaborate deception, prompting the pharmacy owner to file the police complaint. The Sant Tukaram police are now intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect, who remains at large. The case highlights the risks associated with job scams and underscores the importance of verifying employment offers through official channels.
