Pune Police Crack Jain Temple Silver Crown Theft Case, Arrest Serial Offender

The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch has successfully solved a high-profile theft case involving a valuable silver crown from a Jain temple in Chinchwad. The incident, which occurred on February 21, saw the crown, worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh, stolen from an idol within the temple premises.

Intensive Investigation Leads to Breakthrough

In the early hours of February 21, the silver crown was reported missing, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. A dedicated crime branch team, under the leadership of senior inspector Narendra Thakare, launched a comprehensive investigation. The team meticulously examined over 200 CCTV camera feeds from the surrounding area, a crucial step that eventually led to identifying the perpetrator.

The thief was captured on camera posing as a priest to gain access and commit the theft, a deceptive tactic that initially complicated the case. Through persistent detective work, the police were able to trace the suspect's movements and gather sufficient evidence.

Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property

Following the identification, assistant inspector Dattatreya Gulig orchestrated a strategic trap in Mumbai, leading to the recent arrest of the accused, Naresh Jain (49), a resident of Bhuleshwar in Mumbai. Jain, who is already a known criminal with a record on police files, was taken into custody without incident.

The police confirmed the recovery of the stolen silver crown from Jain's possession, marking a significant victory in the investigation. This recovery not only restores the temple's valuable artifact but also brings closure to the religious community affected by the theft.

Criminal History and Modus Operandi

Naresh Jain has an extensive criminal background, with a total of 12 theft cases registered against him. This includes 11 cases with the Mumbai police and one with the Thane police, highlighting his history of illicit activities. According to police statements, Jain specifically targeted Jain temples, stealing valuables from these religious sites.

His modus operandi involved impersonating religious figures to bypass security and access sacred items, a method that underscores the need for heightened vigilance in places of worship. The arrest serves as a deterrent to similar crimes and showcases the effectiveness of modern investigative techniques, such as CCTV analysis, in solving complex cases.

The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch's swift action and thorough investigation have been commended, ensuring justice is served and reinforcing public trust in law enforcement capabilities. This case also raises awareness about the importance of security measures in religious institutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
