Pune Police Implements Advanced Communication System for Grand Tour Event
The Pune police have successfully deployed a sophisticated walkie-talkie communication system to ensure seamless coordination during the ongoing Pune Grand Tour event. This modern system facilitates effective communication among various participating teams, as well as between police personnel and district authorities, enabling close monitoring of the entire event.
Comprehensive Communication Network Across Regions
A dedicated communication channel has been activated across Pune city, Pune rural areas, and Pimpri Chinchwad – all regions hosting the tour. This integrated network has already proven crucial for efficient event management, according to police officials.
Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar spearheaded this initiative by integrating multiple communication technologies including ultra high frequency, very high frequency, and analogue systems. The comprehensive approach ensures reliable connectivity even in challenging terrain.
Technical Implementation and Equipment Distribution
Assistant commissioner of police (communication and IT) Vivek Pawar explained the technical aspects of the system: "After establishing the integrated communication infrastructure, we distributed walkie-talkies to team managers and installed GPS trackers on police vehicles assisting the tour. This enables team managers to communicate effectively with their members as well as with the cyclists participating in the event."
The police department has provided substantial equipment for the event:
- 110 walkie-talkie sets for communication purposes
- 56 vehicles equipped with GPS tracking systems
- 80 wireless sets provided to officers and officials responsible for on-ground management
Overcoming Geographical Challenges
Given that Pune district includes ghats, hills, and valleys, there are significant stretches along the tour route where conventional mobile networks are unreliable or completely unavailable. The new communication system specifically addresses these challenges.
Pawar emphasized the system's effectiveness: "The new integrated system has enabled all teams to maintain connectivity with each other, with cyclists, and with authorities even in remote hilly and rural areas. This dedicated communication channel ensures timely assistance, guidance, and support for both participants and police personnel working in the field."
The implementation of this advanced communication infrastructure represents a significant upgrade in event management capabilities for the Pune police, particularly for large-scale events like the Pune Grand Tour that span diverse geographical areas with varying connectivity challenges.
