Pune Realtor Linked to Tipu Pathan Gang Dies by Suicide; FIR Against Ex-NCP Corporator
Pune Realtor in MCOCA Case Dies by Suicide, Names Ex-Corporator

A Pune-based real estate developer, who was facing charges under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in a case linked to the notorious Tipu Pathan gang, was found dead in an apparent suicide on Saturday. The incident has taken a dramatic turn with the filing of a police complaint against a former local politician.

Death and the Detailed Suicide Note

Sadiq Hussain Kapur, 57, was discovered deceased at his office located in Kumar Palace, Pune Camp, around 6:30 pm on Saturday. Authorities from the Lashkar police station arrived at the scene following an alert. During their investigation, the police recovered a purported suicide note spanning approximately 30 pages.

This extensive note allegedly contained serious allegations. Kapur is said to have named Faruk Inamdar, a former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator representing the Hadapsar area, among others. The police completed a post-mortem examination at Sassoon Hospital before releasing the body to Kapur's family. An accidental death report was initially registered, launching a probe into the circumstances.

FIR Filed for Abetment of Suicide

The case escalated on Sunday when Kapur's son, 27-year-old Sajid Kapur, filed a formal complaint at the Lashkar police station. He accused four individuals of abetting his father's suicide. The accused named in the complaint are Faruk Yasin Inamdar, Afan Faruk Inamdar, Juhur Mohammad Sayyad, and Tanvir Ibrahim Maniyar.

Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered under sections 108, 308(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The police stated that the complaint alleged Kapur was subjected to intense harassment, with the accused repeatedly demanding a sum of Rs 50 lakh from him. This sustained pressure is cited as a primary reason that led to his extreme step. Inspector Girishkumar Dighavkar confirmed that an investigation into the abetment case is currently underway.

Background: Links to the Tipu Pathan Gang and MCOCA

The tragedy is deeply intertwined with a broader crackdown on organized crime in Pune. Police revealed that Sadiq Kapur was allegedly associated with gangster Tipu Pathan, 35, from Mohammadwadi. Pathan is an accused in nearly 25 serious offences, including murder, attempt to murder, and extortion. He and several of his gang members are currently incarcerated.

Police action against Pathan intensified after a video from April 2025, showing him hurling money at a qawwali programme, went viral. Later that same month, he and others, including his brother Ejaz, were arrested in a land grab and extortion case filed by a woman at Kalepadal police station. It was in this case that MCOCA was first invoked against the Tipu Pathan gang.

In a significant development, a wanted member of Pathan's gang, Shahrukh alias Atti Rahim (29), was gunned down in a police encounter in Solapur on June 15, 2025. Subsequently, in November, MCOCA was slapped on the gang again in another land-grab case filed by a Mumbai-based woman at the same police station.

Sadiq Kapur was named as an accused in this November 2024 case for his alleged involvement in the illegal land transaction. He had been evading arrest since the charges were filed. In a related action, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and police jointly demolished alleged illegal constructions linked to Tipu Pathan at Khwaja Manzil building in Sayyad Nagar using a bulldozer in September.
