Pune Society Residents Apprehend Burglar in Dramatic Morning Confrontation
In a display of remarkable courage and community vigilance, residents of a housing society at Indrayaninagar in Bhosari, Pune, successfully apprehended one of two burglars on Sunday morning. The dramatic incident unfolded as the duo attempted to flee with stolen valuables from a locked flat, leading to a tense confrontation where weapons were brandished.
Early Morning Burglary Attempt Foiled by Alert Neighbors
The incident began around 7:15 AM on Sunday when the 52-year-old assistant vice-president of a private company in Alandi and his wife left their flat for a morning walk. Approximately 45 minutes later, at around 8 AM, the flat owner received an urgent call from a neighbor informing him that someone had broken into his residence and urging him to return immediately.
"When the complainant reached his society, he discovered that his vigilant neighbors had already caught one individual," explained an officer from the Bhosari police. "He also noticed that one neighbor had suffered a cut on his left forearm during the altercation."
Armed Confrontation and Community Resistance
According to police accounts, the two burglars had entered the flat and stolen two silver coins along with ₹55,500 in cash, with the total value of stolen items amounting to ₹57,500. As they attempted to escape on a motorcycle with their loot, alert residents of the society moved to block their path.
"The duo, armed with knives and a country-made pistol, threatened residents with dire consequences if they continued to obstruct their escape," the police officer detailed. "Despite these threats, the determined residents managed to nab one of the accused."
During the struggle, the accomplice who managed to escape assaulted one resident with a knife. In a crucial moment, when the fleeing burglar pointed his country-made pistol toward the residents, the magazine slipped from the weapon. Seizing this opportunity, the residents rushed toward the duo.
Arrest and Injuries During the Apprehension
The arrested accused has been identified as Sagar Singh Andhrele, a 30-year-old resident of Jalna. Police have launched a search operation to locate his accomplice who managed to scale the compound wall and escape during the confrontation.
The incident resulted in several injuries:
- A resident suffered a cut on his left forearm
- A relative of the society's watchman sustained injuries to his right little finger while attempting to apprehend Singh
- The arrested accused, Sagar Singh Andhrele, also suffered injuries during the struggle
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

The residents' collective action, despite facing armed threats, demonstrates remarkable community solidarity in the face of danger.
