Pune Chain Snatching Incident: Elderly Woman Robbed in Kalyaninagar

A shocking chain snatching incident occurred in Pune on Friday evening, where a scooter rider targeted a 67-year-old woman and made off with her gold chain valued at approximately Rs 4 lakh. The crime took place in Lane No. 6 of the upscale Kalyaninagar locality at around 7:45 PM, sending ripples of concern through the community.

Details of the Robbery

According to the Yerawada police, the victim had been out shopping in the Nagpur Chawl area earlier in the day, traveling by autorickshaw. She later returned to Kalyaninagar in another auto. Upon reaching her destination, the woman attempted to pay the fare with cash, but the driver requested a UPI payment as he lacked change.

Senior Inspector Anjum Bagwan of the Yerawada police station provided a detailed account: "As the woman stepped out of the autorickshaw and was scanning the QR code to complete the transaction, a scooter rider arrived at the scene. He parked his vehicle behind the auto and approached her directly. Without warning, he pushed her forcefully and snatched the gold chain from her neck."

The perpetrator had left his scooter's ignition running, enabling a rapid escape. After seizing the chain, he rushed back to his vehicle and sped away from the location. Fortunately, despite the violent push, the elderly woman did not sustain any physical injuries during the ordeal.

Following the incident, she immediately approached the Yerawada police and filed a formal complaint against the unidentified scooter rider. Law enforcement authorities have launched a thorough investigation, leveraging technological aids to track down the culprit.

CCTV Footage Analysis

Inspector Bagwan confirmed that the entire incident was captured by surveillance cameras in the area. "Our team is meticulously analyzing the CCTV footage to identify the registration number of the scooter used in the crime," he stated. This evidence is crucial for advancing the case and apprehending the suspect.
