A 70-year-old retired security guard in Pune has become the latest victim of a heartless financial fraud, losing his hard-earned savings to a conman who exploited his desire for continued employment. The senior citizen, affiliated with the Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC), was cheated of a substantial sum of Rs 1.50 lakh between June 2024 and November 2025.
The Promise of a Decade-Long Extension
The scam unfolded when the victim, who had moved back to his native place in Sangli district but frequently visited Pune, met the accused in Hadapsar during a visit in 2024. The suspect presented a compelling but entirely fabricated offer. He claimed that the state DGP office had issued a Government Resolution (GR) that allowed for the extension of services for security guards for an impressive 10 years post-retirement.
Lured by the prospect of a secure income for another decade, the retired guard agreed to the proposition. Over the following months, he paid the accused a total of Rs 1.5 lakh, expecting to receive the official letter confirming his service extension in return. However, the promised document never materialized.
Police Investigation Reveals Forgery
After realizing he had been duped, the elderly victim recently approached the Hadapsar police and lodged a formal complaint. Senior Inspector Sanjay Mogle of Hadapsar police station provided details of the case to the media. He confirmed that the suspect had used a completely fake document to carry out the deception.
"The suspect took the money from the guard but did not give him a letter extending his services," stated Inspector Mogle. He further clarified a critical fact: The state DGP office has not issued any such GR. The letter shown to the victim, complete with a government stamp and forged signatures of officials, was a counterfeit creation designed solely to mislead and defraud.
A Warning to Vulnerable Job Seekers
This case highlights a disturbing trend where fraudsters target vulnerable individuals, particularly senior citizens seeking employment or extensions. The police have emphasized that no such GR extending services for 10 years exists for MSSC guards. They urge the public, especially retirees, to exercise extreme caution and to verify any such extraordinary claims directly with the concerned government departments or corporations through official channels before parting with any money.
The Hadapsar police are now actively investigating the case to apprehend the accused Hadapsar-based man. This incident serves as a stark reminder to always double-check the authenticity of offers that seem too good to be true, especially when they involve significant financial transactions.
