Pune Police Apprehend Senior Woman in Major Drug Bust

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Pune police arrested a 64-year-old woman from Mumbai on Tuesday, seizing mephedrone and cocaine with a total street value of Rs 2.6 lakh. The arrest occurred in the Pimple Gurav area late on Monday night, where the suspect was allegedly waiting to deliver the illicit substances.

Police Operation Based on Tip-Off

Inspector Amol Nandekar of the Sangvi police station revealed that authorities acted on a credible tip-off. "We laid a trap and while the woman waited for the buyer, we took her into custody along the road in Pimple Gurav," Nandekar stated. The operation led to the confiscation of 11.5 grams of the synthetic drug mephedrone and 9.7 grams of cocaine.

Details of the Accused and Investigation

During interrogation, the woman disclosed that she resides on Juhu Tara Road in Mumbai, while her daughter lives abroad. Nandekar explained, "The woman is a drug addict. She said she had agreed to deliver the contraband substance to acquire more drugs for herself." She further claimed that a person from Malad had sent her to make the delivery.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are actively searching for the supplier who provided her with the drugs. This incident highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
