Pune: Seven Arrested for Abducting Man to Force Marriage

Pune: Seven people were arrested and a minor detained for abducting a 29-year-old man from Shindewadi in Haveli taluka on Wednesday night. The abduction was an attempt to force him into a marriage with a woman who orchestrated the entire crime. Police acted swiftly and apprehended the suspects within four hours.

Incident Details

The Lonikand police reported that around 9:29 pm on Thursday, the police control room received a call from a resident of Shindewadi in Ashtapur. The caller stated that his brother had been abducted by unidentified individuals in a white vehicle from a location near a fuel station on the Pune-Nagar highway.

Senior Inspector Sunita Rokade of Lonikand police dispatched multiple teams to the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was allegedly slapped and abducted with the intention of marrying him off to a woman. “We rescued him from Majalgaon in Beed district with the help of the local police. The man is a worker in a company in Koregaon Bhima,” she said.

Investigation and Arrests

Police identified the vehicle and its route by studying CCTV camera footage along the highway. “The victim and the woman, both natives of Parbhani district, have known each other for the last three years. The woman wanted to marry him, but he had refused. Subsequently, she decided to abduct him. The suspects were taking the victim to Parbhani,” Rokade added.

The arrested suspects were identified as Sudam Tathe (23), Sheikh Sohel Sheikh Afasar (21), Devidas Pajange (21), Vaibhav Shelke (22), Sarang Kakde (33), Prasad Gawli (27), and Sonali Nirwal (27), all residents of Parbhani. A minor was also detained in connection with the crime.

During interrogation, it was found that the woman had conspired with the other accused to abduct the victim and force him into marriage. The police continue to investigate the case.
