Pune: Faraskhana police have arrested a 49-year-old shopkeeper on charges of molesting a 10-year-old girl in the Ganeshnagar area on Thursday afternoon. The accused allegedly offered the girl a chocolate before committing the act. The girl, who resides in her grandmother's neighborhood, immediately ran away and reported the incident to her grandmother, who alerted the police.
Incident Details
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale stated, "The girl fled from the shop as soon as the accused molested her. She then narrated the entire incident to her grandmother, who promptly called the police." Senior Inspector Prashant Bhasme of Faraskhana police added, "The girl had come to Ganesh Peth a few days ago to stay with her grandmother. She normally lives with her parents in Khadakwasla."
How the Incident Unfolded
According to police, the shopkeeper offered the girl a chocolate when she was walking past his shop. As soon as she approached him, he pulled her close and hugged her inappropriately. However, the girl, who had been taught about good and bad touch, immediately ran away from the spot and saved herself.
Police Response and Awareness
Senior Inspector Bhasme emphasized, "The girl knew about good and bad touch, which helped her escape. Raising awareness among children about such behavior is crucial." The accused has been arrested and is being interrogated. Further investigation is underway.
