Tragic Accident Claims Life of Toddler in Pune's Kharadi Area
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Pune's Kharadi locality on Thursday night, resulting in the death of a two-year-old boy. The young victim, identified as Mayur Aman Malve, was playing near his home when he was tragically run over by a pickup truck.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to Assistant Inspector Ravindra Godse of the Kharadi police station, the accident occurred when the boy was playing in front of his residence in a workers' colony. At approximately the same time, the accused driver, a 66-year-old man who owns a cattle shed near the colony, arrived in his pickup truck to collect milk.
The driver reportedly failed to notice the child and ran him over with the vehicle. Immediate efforts were made to rush the injured boy to a nearby hospital, but medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The Kharadi police have registered a formal case against the pickup truck driver for causing death due to negligence. This action followed a complaint lodged by the boy's father, who works as a daily wage laborer.
"We have registered a case and our investigations are ongoing," confirmed Assistant Inspector Godse. The police have issued an official notice to the truck driver, requiring his cooperation with the ongoing probe into this tragic event.
Community Impact and Safety Concerns
This devastating incident has raised serious questions about road safety in residential areas, particularly where children play near vehicular traffic. The tragedy highlights the vulnerability of young children in mixed-use neighborhoods where residential and commercial activities intersect.
The police investigation continues as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident and ensure appropriate legal proceedings follow.
