In a tragic incident in Pune, a 34-year-old fruit trader and his accomplice were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a man to death following a dispute over an unpaid amount of Rs 20,000. The Kalewadi police have identified the deceased as Hashim Raeen, a resident of Vijaynagar in Kalewadi, who originally hailed from Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh.

Details of the Attack and Arrests

The violent altercation occurred on Tuesday night in Kalewadi, where the victim's brother, Arbaz Raeen (22), also suffered a deep cut on his face during the attack. The police swiftly took action, arresting Saddam Raeen (34) and Mohammed Sharif Khan (30), both residents of Kapse Chawl in Vijaynagar and natives of Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh.

The accused have been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103 for murder, Section 109 for attempt to murder, and Section 115 for voluntarily causing hurt. Sub-inspector Balaji Mete of the Kalewadi police provided crucial insights into the case, explaining that the complainant's family operates fruit stalls across various areas of Pimpri Chinchwad and had previously sourced fruit from the accused.

Background of the Dispute

According to Sub-inspector Mete, the conflict arose when the complainant's family ceased purchasing fruit from the accused due to a payment disagreement. The accused had been persistently pursuing the complainant's cousin to recover the outstanding Rs 20,000, which escalated into the fatal confrontation.

On Tuesday night around 11:15 PM, the complainant and his cousin were returning home after dinner when the accused and his accomplice intercepted them. The situation quickly deteriorated as the accused began verbally abusing the cousin over the unpaid money. When the complainant attempted to intervene, both he and his cousin were physically assaulted.

Fatal Intervention and Aftermath

Hearing the disturbance near their residence, Hashim Raeen and other family members rushed outside to assist. In the ensuing chaos, the accused attacked the complainant on his face. Hashim Raeen bravely stepped in to help his brother, but was restrained by the accused while the accomplice delivered the fatal stab wound.

The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced Hashim Raeen dead upon arrival. Sub-inspector Mete confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover further details and ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case of violence stemming from a financial disagreement.
